This is a tried and true recipe for hush puppies. It's from Sam's wife, Linda- from her dad, Tom Taylor and I've eaten these myself and will happily vouch for them! Tom Taylor’s Hush Puppies 1 cup flour 3 cups corn meal 1 tsp salt 4 tsp baking powder 2 T sugar 2 eggs 1 ½ cup milk 1 bell pepper, chopped 1 large onion, chopped
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Scoop up up by rounded tablespoons, about the size of a walnut, and drop in hot oil. Fry until browned.
As an aside- my mother is English and she always sprinkles a little bit of vinegar on her hush puppies, so that's the way I eat them, too. Any good vinegar will do- malt, apple cider, etc.
