Today was the '1 Fly - 1 Lure' fishing gala and it was a good one! If you missed this one, mark your calender for the one in October next year. The first prize, a Sage Flight 5 wt 9 foot 2 piece fly rod complete with a Ross reel, went to Michael Cormier of Bentonville, who caught 58 trout on an olive Turner micro jig. Mike is shown with his prize in the photo below. The 2nd and 3rd places went to Brice Cavion and Ken Russell, right to left in the photo below. Brice, who used a brown and olive midge with a green rib and gold bead, chose a fly line and Ken, who fished with a brown and olive midge with a silver bead, took a C&F fly box. Everyone had a grand time fishing in the morning and enjoyed a catfish dinner at Spider Creek Resort, catered by Anglers, which began serving about 12:30. The most successful of those fishing this morning were those who were between the Bertrand launch ramp and Spider Creek Resort. The bite was excellent until around 10 AM, after which it was merely good. The bite at Parker Bend was only OK. If you were to have fished anywhere up river from the trophy area, you where probably wondering where the fish were hiding. Sam and I tried the Turnaround and points upstream and found that the fish were not at all cooperative. There were fish around, but the bite was very slow, and on rainbow, hatchery formula and orange. We did not see anyone else catching fish while we were trying those locations. When we arrived at Bertrand, around 10:40, we immediately caught fish. Now you know where they are! There is no generation scheduled today. The weather forecast calls for a high temperature of 65 degrees F. under sunny skies with winds from the NNE at 7 MPH.
