Launched at Houseman Access at 7 AM and trolled up river dragging Scatter Rap Minnows, 11s, black on silver. Caught both walleye and trout between Houseman and the Hwy 62 bridge. Changed to bait and tried for trout in several locations on the way back to Houseman Access, and one area out of the tailwaters. The trout were liking fluorescent orange and pink, but did not readily hit on yellow, salmon peach, rainbow or garlic. Today was a 'check out the river bite' day, so all fish caught, yes, including the walleye, were released. What was I thinking??? Sam and I were finished with our river sampling and back at the house by 9 AM. There were a couple of guide boats on the river, one up river fishing near the old Hwy 62 bridge pilings, and the other downstream of the tailwaters. The water temperature from Houseman to past the 62 bridge ranged from 47 degrees F. to 44, respectively. We marked a great deal of fish in our travels, but none appeared to be whites. There is generation scheduled from 4 through 6 PM at 88% of capacity. The winds are from the NE at 8 MPH, gusting to 12. High temperature today should reach 73 degrees F., under mostly sunny afternoon skies. Nice day to fish.... but aren't they all!
