Wow! Yesterday was a full day of fishing, beginning with the One Fly - One lure contest, the winner of which took home a fly rod. The contest winner caught 30 trout, with the second place taken by a high 20 count. All of the entrants enjoyed a great morning followed by a free catfish fry at the Spider Creek Resort after the contest. There also was a drawing for a fly-rod and reel combination valued at $500.00.
Sam enjoyed the fishing with son and grandson. They fished in the Bertrand Launch Ramp area and did pretty good in the trout-catching arena.
While the contest was going on, a couple of us dusted off our fly-rods and tried to get a brown or two in the riffles near the Parker Campground. The browns, some of which are breath-taking in size, are coming upriver to spawn. The only one caught was of the smaller variety. Maybe next time!
After the fish-fry I fished with a couple and their son between the Bertrand Launch Ramp and Spider Creek. They were new to the trout fishing game, so I gave them a few of our 'secrets' and watched as they filled their stringers with their limit. They have a trip scheduled with one of our ‘competitors,' but will not need any help in the 'how to do it' portion of the trip.
Received a call from a couple of good friends who wanted to fish following the day’s generation. Met them at River Access 1, below the dam, where the water would stop moving first, thereby allowing us a bit more time to fish before dark. We caught a few fish while catching up with the 'happenings' since our last get together. All-in-all, it was a busy, fun-filled day.
Generation for Sunday is scheduled for one hour, 5 PM at 24% of capacity. The high temperature for Sunday is expected to be 84º F. under mostly sunny skies. Winds will be from the SSE at 8 to 10 MPH.
